Maybe I’m the only one…. maybe I’m a little strange… but when I am driving over to a wedding and I see ominous clouds I get just a little excited. Not at the prospect of rain, but because these clouds usually yield amazing sunsets. Just wait to see if I was right…
Nicole and Grant reserved me through Maui’s Angels Weddings for their sunset wedding at Polo Beach. Their families joined on the golden sand and since it was also high tide, I set them up in a spot that has amazing light but I had never had the opportunity to photograph at that angle before. I was so excited that everything was working totally to my advantage – the clouds, the light, the sweet family. The processional consisted of Nicole’s sister and daughter and she was escorted in by her dad. The sweet ceremony by Ernest Pua’a included words about Aloha and being present in the moment. The music of Kaniala accompanied the ceremony, so beautiful! I loved the way that Nicole looked at Grant and the way that he looked at her – as though he’d been waiting for this moment, as though in that moment he said his vows it was just the two of them standing on the beach together. It was very powerful! Nicole was glowing with happiness and looked so beautiful!
A beautiful sand ceremony was also done with the help of both mom’s and also Nicole’s daughter. I loved how in addition to the colored sand that they’d brought they also included a little sand from Polo Beach to finish off the jar.
As the ceremony concluded, the sunset started getting intense. A pink background gave way to an intense purple and pink sunset for these two. I was a little giddy when the colors worked out the way that I was hoping!
It was such a beautiful time – thank you so much for spending that evening with me. Wonderful to meet your adorable family! XOXO
