There are so many things involved with a large group and portraits. Of course the beautiful posed portraits are a top priority, but also with so many individuals and families, it’s also really important for me to showcase everyone’s different personalities and the way that each family group loves one another.
I met this Las Vegas family a couple weeks ago for their session at Mokapu Beach and I was so thankful that we chose this spot because of the varying backgrounds to work with. I loved listening to the playful banter between family members and the silly things we did to get kids to smile. I loved watching Cindy and Brian watching their grown children with their children. It was one of those “full circle” type moments and I could see the pride and happiness that they carry with them.
Before the session started I had a quick conversation with Michael, who was planning on proposing to Katie part way through the session and wanted to do it right in front of her family. We agreed I’d make the “ok” symbol with my hand when I thought it would be a good time. Part way through the session when I had everyone lined up for a group shot I did the “ok” symbol and said “This is great! We’re doing OK!” and I waited. But nothing… so I did it again and Michael caught on that this was his moment! Katie’s face quickly turned from confusion to excitement as Michael got down on one knee and proposed in front of her entire family.
We closed the session on the beach with the beautiful Maui sunset kissing the horizon goodnight as we played on the beach until it was dark. Thank you all for a wonderful evening!
