Hey all! Aloha Clients, Friends, Family…. person stopping by…
Here we are in a brand new year and I’ve watched this business of mine grow. And watched my kids grow (that’s them on the left). I’ve met tons of new people and got to see clients again this year that I saw last. I got to mentor a high school student interested in photography and watched her blossom. It really was a wonderful year.
With the official launch of Maile Maui,I also had a lot of questions from friends and family about why I chose not to do it on my own and why I’m not just promoting my photography.
The other day my husband and I were talking. He works at a swanky hotel in Wailea and all the most expensive villas were booked over the holidays. We’re talking $15,000 PER NIGHT spent on these rooms. I jokingly asked him, “Boy what do I need to do to be able to afford THAT?” and he said that I need to be ok with stepping on a lot of people to get where I need to go. “Well then, sorry babe we’re never getting there.” was my reply.
The truth of the matter is, I really enjoy doing everything I can to support others. I really feel that everyone has a beginning. Everyone has a starting point and being the new kid on the block is HARD. I was there in my early 20’s and if it weren’t for a really amazing mentor, Martin Wyand, I’m not sure I’d be where I am right now. And I still feel that I have so much to learn and so much to grow on – but why not help those just starting out or those that have relocated to Maui to start fresh? There’s certainly enough work and enough love to go around. I have made some really amazing new friends.
So if you are starting something new and feel you’re the little guy and are afraid to reach out to those in your industry (any industry). Do it anyway. Everyone has started off at some point. We can succeed without stepping on someone to get ahead.
Looking forward to all our new adventures in 2015 – the clients that have already booked and those I haven’t even met yet. ALOOOOOHA!
