Ways to make the most of your Maui vacation

Congratulations! You’ve made the wise decision to spend your hard-earned vacation days in one of the most beautiful places on Earth. So how can you make the most of your Maui vacation?

In this blog post, we’ll give you a few tips on how to make the most of your Maui vacation. From finding the best deals on hotels and activities to avoiding the crowds, we’ve got you covered. So sit back, relax, and let us help you plan the perfect Maui vacation.

Book Your Flight in Advance

If you’re flexible with your travel dates, one of the best ways to save money on your Maui vacation is to book your flight in advance. Airlines typically release their cheapest seats about six weeks before departure, so if you can plan ahead, you’ll likely be able to snag a great deal. Another great way to get the best fare is to look at each airlines monthly calendar – you’ll be able to see which dates offer the lowest fare. This comes in super handy when you’re flexible on your dates! Read more about how we find cheap airfare for our vacations.

Find a Hotel You Love

One of the best parts about Maui is its stunning scenery. So why not find a hotel room with a view that you love? From gorgeous resorts like Four Seasons Maui to The Andaz Wailea, to tiny little ocean front gems like Napili Surf and The Mauian, there are so many options for your to stay in. You’ll be glad you opted for a place that you really love when you’re waking up each morning to an incredible view of the ocean right from your hotel room.

On a side note, Maui is in the middle of a housing crisis. We have so many illegally operated Air B&B’s and VRBO’s that we do not recommend renting one. Many are owned by mainland entitites and when you rent one, your money is basically leaving the state and not benefitting the Maui community.

When you stay in a hotel, your money goes toward all of the employees and taxes that support our island community.

Rent a Car

While it’s possible to get around Maui without renting a car, we highly recommend it if you want to make the most of your trip. With a rental car, you’ll have the freedom to explore all that Maui has to offer at your own pace. Because we are a small community, Uber & taxi’s are sometimes not readily available or are very expensive!

Avoid the Crowds

Maui is a popular destination for tourists, which means it can get pretty crowded at times—especially at popular attractions like Haleakala National Park and Lahaina Town. If you want to avoid the crowds, try visiting at alternate hours. Our beaches are packed midday, but early in the morning you’ll find them empty – it’s also a great way to avoid sunburn! And while Haleakala’s sunrise is famous, it’s equally as impressive in the afternoon.

Eat Local Food

One of the best ways to experience any place is through its food—and Maui is no exception. From fresh seafood caught right off the coast to succulent fruits and vegetables grown in local farms, there’s no shortage of delicious food on this island paradise. So make sure to eat like a local during your stay and sample as much of Maui’s cuisine as you can! You can find our dining guide on Instagram to see our faves!

Book Activities Responsibly

With every kind of activity available on island, do you jump for the one with the most advertising or do you go for the one that’s a little more expensive? Is the company locally owned or did someone recently move to Maui to capitalize on it’s beauty? We feel it’s important to source reputable activities with owners that give back to the Maui community. Do your research, or better yet, ask a local concierge for assistance – our recommendation is Iris with the Hawaii Concierge email: iris@thehawaiiconcierge.com

Maui is one of the most beautiful places on Earth—and there’s no shortage of things to do here! Whether you’re looking for relaxation or adventure, we hope these tips will help you make the most of your Maui vacation.

Don’t forget – our very favorite activity to make sure that all these memories are forever held close is a photo session on one of our gorgeous beaches.
